Six pack abs and pull ups go hand in hand together. If you can do 15 pull ups, your abs are most likely visible on your belly or very close to being visible. More pull ups you are able to perform, closer you’ll be getting to your ultimate goal – six pack abs clearly visible.
So why pull ups and not some ab exercise is the best for achieving six pack abs? Great question. And majority people have this wrong. In order to achieve lean abs and possibly six pack abs, they focus on doing abdominal exercises. And this is exactly wrong thing to do.
Pull ups in opposite of doing any ab exercise employ more and bigger muscles at the same time, creating higher energy needs for the movement and with that higher metabolism. You can actually achieve six pack abs without even doing one abdominal crunch. You already have six pack abs on your belley. Your job is to uncover them. And pull ups as an exercise is the ultimate tool to do that.

As you probably already know, I consider pull ups and it’s variations being the best exercise in the world. Yes, the best. If you tell me, I can do only one strength training exercise for the rest of my life, I would choose pull ups.
So, my fellow six pack abs achiever, start doing pull ups. You already have pull up bar installed at home and possibly at your work place too. And hopefully you also found one or two in your neighborhood. Great! Time to put pull ups into the action!
In my video example of doing pull ups, I do them on a tree branch. And that’s ok. I love outdoors environment and it’s incredibly convenient for me. I urge you to give it a try! Nothing beats outdoors. Even 5 feet of snow everywhere around or a big rain storm, you can still do pull ups outside.
Outdoors makes you healthier, stronger, tougher. It’s like being a wild animal out there with everything included – rain, shine, ice or snow. It employs all your senses. Domesticated dog will never outperform lonely wolf who lives in the nature. Try to adopt that mentality. Stay outside if you can.
Of course, I also do pull ups at home and work, which is indoors. Often, life gets very demanding and there is no time for strolling the neighborhood. That’s when your home and work made pull up stations come handy. And you finish your prescribed pull ups for the day there. Perfect!
How many sets, how often and how many repetitions?
I recommend doing pull ups 2-3X times per week.
5 times maximum amount of repetitions, modified pull ups included.
Best days combination: Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays or Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
You can incorporate pull ups into your strength training routine you are already doing. And that was – Year to six pack abs step 9. And we added, push ups to it – Year to six pack abs – step 14 and squat jumps to that plan – Year to six pack abs – step 17 . Now, add pull ups to it or do it separately. Ultimately it doesn’t matter. As long as you do them on regularly.
