My favorite workout buddy – Peter is leaving the US today and going back to live in a country and the city where we were born and grew up together. We went to the same school together. I am sad today. I am loosing my favorite workout buddy. We grew up together and we left Slovakia for America at around the same time.
No, we didn’t push and pull iron together in gym and we didn’t go together for mindless long runs. Peter is my very long term tennis partner and great friend. And he was always the better player than me. There were few, very few times when I managed to win a match over Peter, but he won by far the majority of our weekly regular games. And that’s why my tennis game was always improving.
I had the privilege to play with Peter, a much better tennis player than I was. I had to do almost impossible to win the mach over Peter. Which, like I mention before, didn’t happen very often. Remember this rule – if you want to get better at something, play it against the better players and your game will improve. I will dedicate this topic to my other article sometimes in the future. But Peter was a better player than I was, and that’s why I became a better player.
So what do you do when you loose you favorite workout buddy? It is hard and it’s sad too. But you can’t quit. You have to keep doing what you were always doing when your workout buddy was there with you. In my case, it means I will keep playing tennis, even if my favorite player I used to play with is on different continent. I will find another workout buddy and I will keep playing. I am sure Peter will do the same. And than someday in the future we will meet again with Peter. Either here in US or somewhere else in the world and we will play our regular game again.
Peter I will miss you. You are not only my favorite workout buddy, but one of my best friends. I am already looking forward for our next tennis game. And maybe I will brake couple of rockets from frustration, like in the old times, because I couldn’t keep up with you! Keep playing! Don’t quit! Stay fit and healthy!
