After experiencing recent intensive sickness (strept throught) and many days of high fewer that really floored me, I’m back feeling good. My Six Pack Abs fitness and energy levels suffered greatly, but it’s all good now. I’m back on the track.
What a miserable experience!
But we all go through it occasionally.
I’m a physically very fit guy. And mentally too. But 8 days of high fever left me very weak.
It’s all good, I’ll bounce back soon!
But I learned few important lessons I want to share with you.
It was indeed a great learning experience!
The obvious one is:
Your health is your true asset and wealth! Without it you don’t have anything! So treat it that way!
All I was doing was crushed on the sofa without moving, watching the whole family passing by.
And when kids wanted something, I told them to ask their mom. I was that grumpy old guy in the way.
Yes that’s what sickness will make you! Useless person just standing in the way!
What a miserable way to exist!
I repeat again!
Treat your health very seriously!!!
Do everything you should for it!
Everything!
No excuses!
If you’ve been 15 pounds overweight for the past 10 years, it’s time to take care of that now! If you don’t, you’re playing with some serious fire!
Now there are few more lessons I learned:
Beware of self diagnosis!
If you are a man like me, we suffer both with overconfidence of knowing what’s wrong with us.
After first 3 days of high fever of 103 I gave myself sure fire medical diagnoses – I have a flu!
Dam, should got a flu shot!
Damage is done, next time I will. What now? Well doctors don’t prescribe anything for flue. It’s just – rest, sleep, managing fever and limited activity. I can do that! No big deal! That was my thought process.
7 days later fever is still high! Damn flue!!! It’s a strong one!!! Should got that flue shot! So dum of me!
But now I feel so miserable, I’m looking to squeeze a doctor appointment in my busy day schedule taking care of little kids.
Anyway I did see the doctor next day and she immediately ruled my self diagnosis of flu out.
It took her whole 5 minutes to diagnose me with strept throught.
Antibiotics helped immediately! Boom! I could have done that in third day of high fever. Instead I suffered another 5.
Anyway, beware of self disgnosis! That’s the lesson.
Rest more!
I work out all the time! Everyday! You might think how great and disciplined I am.
Wrong!
I realize that I’m addicted to strength training and I want to get it done daily no matter what.
If you do that, your body won’t have time to rest and your immunity will drop. Like it did in my case. And than it’s easy to get sick.
You might be in the same situation if you find yourself stressing daily about finishing your workouts. And it turns out you workout consistently every day. Yes that’s me too.
That’s not healthy! It is an adiction!
No more daily workouts for me and you! 2 days per week off from weights. Go play tennis or soccer or have some other active fun!
More rest, less stressing from now on.
Take sleep very seriously!
I’ve been sleeping less and less lately. Why? Because I thought I don’t need more sleep. So I was happy with 6 maybe 7 hours daily.
Sleep is the strongest immunity booster and supporter. I neglected it and got sick.
From now on 8 hours minimum. I’ll force myself to go to bed earlier. And you my fellow six pack abs achiever should do the same!
Apply mindfulness. Do less!
I do everything fast. Get shit done fast is the way I live. But I don’t think that’s the right way to go through your days. You’ll burn out fast and you’ll be angry and miserable.
And your health suffers with it. Life is too short for that!
If you catch yourself yelling at your kids daily, you’re over scheduled, ambitious, miserable wreck. Yes that’s me the past year. No more!
From now on I’ll put only 1/3 on my daily plate of things to do than I used to. And I’ll go on to my day more relaxed, mindful and maybe my kids will also enjoy my company again. I’m sorry kidos!
No, your daddy is not a dictator!
Slow down but be consistent!
Now I don’t want to promote laziness with this relaxed new attitude of mine.
You should still finish your workouts consistently. But you should enjoy your days off too.
You’ll still keep up with your daily responsibilities like you always did. But don’t try to do too much and than stress about it when you can’t pull it off.
Life is short! Make sure you don’t miss the important moments of your day! For that you need to stay mentally and physically at you 100%. And now I know how to achieve that! Doing less workout and less in general will bring better health and results too! But no less sleep! More of it! End of the story.
