Our skin absorbs stuff we put on it. The stuff you put on your skin actually gets inside of your body.
I am looking now at the plastic bottle of lotion and it’s ingredients list I bought about 3 years ago: parafinum liquidum, glycerin, caprilic trigliceride, glyceryl stearate, alcohol denat, stearic acid, dimethicon, persea gratissima, myristyl alcohol, tocopheril acetate, sodium carbomer, methylparaben, butylparaben any many, many other ingredients. I am truly disgusted.
Would I be able to actually spread this supper good for your skin claiming body lotion on my toast and eat it without getting sick? I don’t think so. It has too many ingredients, I don’t understand and never heard of. Maybe some of those are perfectly natural but I am not going to research them.
Instead I decided to go the natural way. And in these case it’s very simple. I started using first cold pressed olive oil, coconut oil or coconut butter on my skin, instead of commercially made lotions.
It contains only one ingredient – olive oil or coconut and I know exactly what those are. And it seems to be solving my dry skin problem perfectly. Of course, you can also eat olive oil or mix coconut butter into your smoothies and it’s perfectly good for you. And since you can eat it, it’s perfectly safe for your skin too. No chemicals and conservatives!
After I put some coconut butter from a can I bought in grocery store to the fridge for future use as a skin lotion last week, it already got bad. It changed the color and some mold created on it. This is actually great news! Why? Because generally the stuff we eat that goes bad the fastest like for example strawberries, raspberries, figs, and all fruits and vegetables are the best for our health. And seeing the coconut butter going bad in my fridge very quickly confirms the fact that it doesn’t contain any chemicals and conservatives and it’s fantastic for my skin and health.
We often fall into a trap of commercials for skin products. They inform us, that to stay young and keep our skin young and healthy looking, you have to use their products. These messages are everywhere and they eventually get into our brains and we get convinced that the message is truth. So we buy them. We use them. We use them very often. More often than we should. And we don’t realize, that we are actually bringing some potentially dangerous chemicals into our life. Like we don’t already have enough of them around us. And we also pay for it lots of money.
The solution is very simple. Don’t buy anything commercially made for your skin. Nothing! Use natural stuff you find on shelfs in your grocery store like olive oil, coconut oil, coconut butter, even lard is fine and natural, almond oil, sesame oil and others.
I personally haven’t bought anything for my skin in past 5 years. I use one simple natural bar soap for cleaning my body and hair. Ok, I don’t have much of a hair on my head, but I would still probably use the same natural bar of soap for it anyway. Even if I had a lot of hair.
Can you too eliminate these extra chemicals in your life?
