What a bad advice Milan, you say! Everybody recommends to eat breakfast. It’s a common sense. It’s good for loosing weight and when you have good large breakfast, you will eat less calories per day. And it gives you the right fuel to start the day, bla, bla, bla.
Yes, those things are maybe truth and of course I heard that you are supposed to eat breakfast every morning too. But it doesn’t work for me. I started skipping my breakfast about 3 years ago. Yes, I don’t eat breakfast. The first meal I have in my day is at around 11:30 AM or 12. The result? I feel fantastic. I have huge amount of energy. I enjoy that slightly hungry feeling. My mind is absolutely clear. And if you ask me the name of my 1 grade elementary school teacher, I will fire at you every one of them until college.
Not eating breakfast is working for me. And it could very well work for you too. You can actually loose extra weight not eating breakfast. I got even leaner than I was before skipping my breakfast. Another incredible benefit in skipping breakfast is in prolonged intermitted fasting that’s been showing lately to increase your immunity system. So while not eating your breakfast, you can avoid that flu or cancer or another scary disease. So eating breakfast is a bad advise in my world. I don’t eat breakfast. And based on what I am experiencing not eating it, I never will.
But skipping your breakfast shouldn’t be practiced until you can follow certain rules that are crucially important for it to benefit you.
First rule and the most important is that your diet throughout your day and especially that last meal you have in the evening needs to be free of processed, carbohydrate/sugar loaded stuff. Your diet needs to be clean of any processed foods. It needs to consist of natural, whole foods with plenty of protein and fat in it. And your carbohydrates should be only vegetables and fruit. Or, just one glass of wine. Yes, a piece of chicken breast with olive oil and some walnuts and glass of vine is a perfect dinner. There is no rice there, no pasta, no desert. All your carbs are coming from that glass of vine. And that’s already plenty.
Second, for your next meal after skipping breakfast you apply the same rule. Your next meal needs to be the same. You use the same rule as rule one. You eat meal free of processed food and free of empty carbohydrates. Which means, just the plain neutrally occurring stuff.
Third, you drink plenty of pure clean water. Having unsweetened coffee or any unsweetened tee is fine too.
Why you shouldn’t skip breakfast if you don’t follow these rules?
The answer is very simple: you will feel like s..t if you do. And I am not going to go into the details here. I wrote extensively on this topic before and I can go on and on about this. But simply if you eat processed foods full of carbohydrates/sugar night before skipping your breakfast, you will wake up very hungry. It’s like waking up with hang over. That sugar you ate night before was entering you blood stream very quickly and your pancreas was releasing insulin to fight it fast in order to take it from your blood fast. All this war was happening in your body while you slept.
Beside not getting quality sleep while this was happening inside your body, your blood sugar levells spiked and dropped dramatically fast while you slept. You wake up in the morning with a sugar hang over. And what a terrible feeling that is.
You are maybe experiencing this kind of sugar hangover every morning and think it is normal. It’s not! Try to perfect your diet and this sugar hangover is gone. And you will never look back again. I personally rather skip all the chips, cookies, deserts, pizzas, crackers that I like so much just for that great restful sleep and that great full of energy and free of sugar hangover feeling in the morning.
Than I don’t eat breakfast to feel great like this longer.
Same with eating after skipping breakfast. Your body now hasn’t gotten any nutrients for 13 to 16 hours. So it is completely clean. Your body is turning into reserves. This is great news! Because those reserves are often fat stored in your waist line. So your body while skipping breakfast is burning more fat.
Now all your energy storage receptors are wide open, they need energy and you are starting to feel a little bit hungry. Now the absolutely worst think you can do and you have to avoid it, is to have some processed, sugar loaded junk that fills these receptors.
Please, please, please, don’t ruin you breakfast skipping with junk like this. Have a meal or snack that is absolutely natural, has protein in it and plenty of fat too. Apple and peanut butter or just the good lunch consisted of meat, or tofu with vegetables is great. Why am I suggesting to you to have fat too? Fat is insulin neutral and makes you feel satiate longer. Fat is very important in healthy, performance, fat burning diet. Don’t be scared of it. I will go as far as to say – indulge in it!
Than of course stay hydrated. That’s pretty much a common sense. Sometimes people while not eating, don’t drink either. Drink enough sugarless fluid.
Is skipping breakfast right for you?
It’s easy foe me to advise to you to skip breakfast. But, that to be effective, you need to follow these important rules that I outlined. Otherwise, skipping breakfast won’t work for you very well.
